The importance of communication skills for engineers

Quote:

“Communication skills are an essential component in the education of engineering students to facilitate not just students’ education but also to prepare them for their future careers.”

Marc Riemer, Faculty of Engineering, Monash University (2007)

With reference to the quote above, having to learn how to communicate properly in school is a basic skill every student has to prepare for their profession. Getting assigned groups by the lecturer to work on a group project is one way to help them enhance their communication skills. Students have to work with people they are unfamiliar with while being courteous. This will then be reflected in their future careers as the majority of engineers today are required to work in teams to achieve the company's goals. Hence learning and enhancing their communication skills is very important to prepare students for their future jobs.

  1. This is a good clear reaction to Riemer's quote, but it isn;t really a paraphrase. :)
